This is a very elegant pair of dangling earrings. I have made them with lovely cobalt blue Czech beads that have a strip of oriental characters accented with gold. I used goldtone french earring hooks to match the gold characters. Sorry - I have no idea of the meaning behind the characters. Graceful Mother of Pearl Earrings

This elegant and graceful pair of earrings is made from lightly carved mother of pearl. I found these carved mother of pearl pieces in a small store in Gibson's B.C. Canada. The store carries locally carved natural materials. I have hung the mother of pearl pieces on golden nickel free nobium earring hooks.

Care: Mother of Pearl requires the same gentle care as pearls. They are sensitive to acids, dryness, and humidity. If you wear cosmetics and/or perfume, put these on before wearing your pearl jewelry. When taking off your pearls, wipe them with a dry, lint-free cloth. If needed, clean your pearls with warm soapy water being very careful to not get water into the drill hole as the pearl may discolor. Dry your pearls flat on an absorbant soft (preferably lint-free) towel.

About Obsidian: Obsidian is natural glass formed by volcanic lava that cooled too quickly. It is usually black. Other colors include: brown, gray, red, blue and green. When there are bubbles or crystal inclusions, it is often called snowflake obsidian.
Obsidian has a hardness rating of 5 and is is fairly fragile. Avoid sharp blows as it will crack.
